Benefits are available regardless of who is at fault for an accident
Almost all British Columbians are eligible for ICBC coverage for medical expenses, rehabilitation expenses, death benefits and wage loss benefits if he/she were involved in a motor vehicle accident in the Province. In some cases, coverages even extend for accidents outside the Province. These benefits are available regardless of who is at fault for an accident. Hence, the benefits are also labeled “No-Fault Benefits”.
The actual coverage for these benefits is set out in Part VII of the Regulations, which is why the benefits are called “Part VII Benefits”.
The maximum amount of the Part VII coverage is currently set at a maximum of $150,000 for accidents before April 1, 2019 and $300,000 thereafter. The reality is around 40 claimants a year max out their benefit plan, so the limits really are not that important for most claimants.
